Ruby's Thoughts on Motherhood

Ruby came to town with Abram and me so that we could drop off some 4-H papers, go to the library, get her glasses adjusted, drop Andrew off with a friend for a sleepover, and get some groceries.
As it was just the three of us and I was driving our little car and not our 15 passenger van, I got to hear all of her thoughts.

Ruby has lots of thoughts.

Here is what she had to say about being a mommy.

"I can't wait 'till I get to be a mommy."

"I know...you're gonna be a gooooood mama, Ruby."  I said.

She continued, " Yep.  'Cause then I will get to have a baby.  And I will get to do my own hair by mySELF.  I'll get to nurse my baby, too.  I'll get to touch hot cooking things all by myself.

"Aaaaaaaaaaand I will get to have a purse.  With money in it.  And maaaaaakeup.

"I'll do the shopping all by myself. (wha?  I don't even get to do that!!)

*gasp* "I'll get dressed whenever I want!!!!

"I'll get to go wherever I want...I'll be the one who gets to give everyone their bath...and I'll get to tell everyone to do their chores.

"Hey--Mom's don't even get a spankin'!

"And that's why it's SO exciting to be a MAMA!!!" she excitedly sighed.  "I can't wait...."

Thinking Out Loud

I keep this blog as a scrapbook of sorts, so forgive me if you seen this little nugget on facebook already...

Elijah was working through sentences in his phonics reader. "Deb can yell" was one of the sentences.
"Hmm," says my child. "Deb must be a mom."

"Quiet" time with Ivy

Ivy woke up and came in to my room while I was rocking Abram. All other children were asleep.
"Morning, Mom. I'll just sit in here with you. While you are nuh-sing Abram, 'k? 'Cause I like to sit with you. I'll just climb up on your bed. Boy, your bed is high. Can you help me get up there? Oh, wait--I can do it. I DID it! I did it mySELF! You have lots of covers on your bed. I'll just crawl in your bed. Well, not IN to your bed. HAHA! Be-tuz I couldn't go IN to your mattress, right Mom? THAT would be crazy! I'll just go here. Right here. But only under the top blanket. 'Cause I would get too hot under two blankets. My bed only has my own blanket on it. I share a bed with Ruby. And YOU share with Daddy. Right, Mom? Abram is very cute, isn't he Mom. He's a CUTIE-PATOOTIE, right Mom. Whoa--I almost fell off the BED, MOM! Whoa, that was a close one! Whew, I coulda gotten hurt, right Mom!
....Boy, it sure is quiet in here, isn't it Mom?"

Well, ummmm, no--but I didn't have the heart to tell her.

Guess Who?

Victory

It is no small victory for the mother of boys when she notices there are more pairs of underwear coming through the wash.
